ABOUT ME
I was born in Bogota, Colombia and moved to the United States when I was five. I was bilingual by my 8th birthday, which would not have been possible without the many teachers who have helped pave my life's path. Since 2005 I've taught Spanish and while my love of teaching has gone beyond the classroom, I'm an explorer at heart.
After graduating from the University of Vermont, I was drawn to northern Hew Hampshire. My love for the outdoors has always pushed me to seek new terrain and I would often snowboard, snowshoe and hike during the long winter months in the North country. Hard work and determination started to cultivate and season my career. By my 27th birthday, I had taught at Plymouth State University, taught kindergarden to Spanish V, taken AP teaching preparation seminars and always managed to stay busy working part time as waitstaff. Although there was unbelievable beauty, my family and loved ones in New Hampshire, I knew my career was competitive. My love for learning coupled with my savvy tech skills, love of people and a detective heart led me to ask a question. Was there somewhere in this world with a university program that would train me with a Master's Degree? There was! It was my boss at PSU, Doctor Barbara Mayhew-Lopez who said, "Go to Spain again, the University of Alcala has a program, you'll love it." There it was, my career would take me to the town of Alcala, where Cervantes himself was born.
By 2012 I had grown to love my favorite hobbies. If I'm not in the classroom I can be investigating recipe books, the lives of Cleopatra, Einstein, Maria Montessori and listening to Buddabar or NPR or simply taking a siesta. I practice yoga, pilates, aqua sculpt, play tennis, run, bike and I'm an Herbalife Health Coach!. I'm so happy to call Marin County my home.
My recent projects include going to an Mexico this October, attending an ACFL Conference in San Diego in November and really focusing on getting my classroom equipped with a front row sound system. All the students who work in my classroom enjoy my class because I offer them strategies, tips and coach them while they are learning a new language! Learning Spanish and teaching real world skills for the 21 century IS MY PASSION. Read more on how to support my students on my GOFUNDME page.
Finally, I would like to thank my first two teachers, that is, my parents Alejandro and Flor Maria who continue to inspire me and my career dreams!
